Morphology Anthology

The Morphology Anthology Chronicles combine structured literacy lessons, advanced word work and content-area passages to teach common morphological patterns.

Each chronicle is thematic, and student passages offer a variety of information related to the chosen topic. Just as the base of the word serves as a launching point for linguistic knowledge, the Morphology Anthology series propels students through reading achievement in upper-elementary school.

Morphology Anthology lessons support the development of literacy skills through a set of 10 different instructional activities that systematically and cohesively prepare students to successfully read the accompanying passage. Activities build a range of skills that contribute to reading accuracy and fluency by developing phonics, morphology, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and spelling skills.

*A student reader is included with each print manual purchase.

Scope and Sequence

Volumes 1 - 6

The Morphology Anthology curriculum is organized by both common morphemes, including prefixes, suffixes and roots, and thematic content. The volumes progress from suffixes typically introduced in elementary school to advanced prefixes and roots aligned with middle school instruction.

Each volume contains units (8) that are developed on thematically-linked topics. For example, Volume 5: Chronicles of Word's Wonders  contains units on Macchu Picchu, The Great Pyramid of Giza, and The Panama Canal. Each unit contains a series of 12 activities related to the unit story. Units are typically delivered over a two or three day span.

Morphemes were selected on their utility and frequency. You can view the scope and sequence of each volume in the images above.

Instructional Video
