The Science of Reading Featuring Small Group Structured Literacy Instruction Upper Grades

Course Overview

This course, designed for educators serving readers at the 3rd - 6th grade level, weaves together instruction in morphology, vocabulary, and comprehension with nonfiction texts. Our students have moved beyond decodables, and they need an engaging and appropriately challenging platform for practicing advanced word study skills. Along these lines, course content features key strategies and routines aligned with morphology instruction, and non-fiction passages that offer content knowledge. In addition, coursework offers plentiful practice delivering pre-planned Morphology Anthology lessons that are text-aligned, build advanced word work skills and develop background knowledge on thematic topics. Each 20 minute lesson weaves together morphology, vocabulary, syntax, fluency, spelling and comprehension.

Educators will leave equipped with intervention and/or small routines, planning templates, and six months of access to pre-planned Morphology Anthology lessons — ready to immediately improve outcomes for students reading at the 3-6 level.

AudienceElementary and secondary school educators supporting students reading at the 3-6 level who are either below benchmark in reading and at-risk of a reading disability or have been identified with dyslexia or a specific learning disability in reading.
