
Grounded in the Science of Reading, this course emphasizes the critical role of morphology, vocabulary development, and advanced word work in reading success.
Through a hands-on, high-leverage approach to small group instruction, you’ll learn to:

Teach advanced word work using syllabication strategies and the six syllable types in English.

Implement strategic vocabulary instruction using active processing techniques and the Frayer model.

Teach morphological awareness, including the most common prefixes, suffixes, and root words, and how they apply to decoding and comprehension.

Guide students in spelling multisyllabic words through encoding strategies and affix rules (Double Rule, Drop-E Rule, Change Y Rule, and more).

Plan and deliver multi-component Structured Literacy lessons that focus on morphology, vocabulary, and comprehension using widely available resources.

Graduate Credit (1) is available through Gordon College for an additional fee of $75. Participants enrolled in graduate credit will need to complete one additional assignment outside of required coursework.
