The RAVE-O Program

Evidence-based instruction to build fluency and comprehension skills among struggling readers including those with dyslexia.

RAVE-O Offers Strategic Instruction in

Fluency and Comprehension

RAVE-O (Retrieval, Automaticity, Vocabulary, Engagement - Orthography) is the first comprehensive research and evidence-based approach to building reading fluency struggling 2nd - 4th graders.

By the completion of the course, participants will be prepared to teach RAVE-O both in-person and online. The program goes beyond repeated reading to help students develop their automaticity in all aspects of word knowledge, integrating phonics, vocabulary, parts of speech, and morphology.

RAVE-O is the only known structured literacy approach for students with Rapid Automatized Naming (RAN) weaknesses, and now has a virtual version of the curriculum for remote instruction.

RAVE-O Virtual offers a curriculum that is designed for both LIVE LESSONS (via Google classroom) and ASYNCHRONOUS ACTIVITIES (via Seesaw). Live Lessons are scripted and easy to deliver, while the asynchronous or self-guided activities have recorded directions that facilitate independent work.

Our hybrid training workshops provides participants with an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the program and its components through self-guided coursework (6 hours) and attend a live virtual workshop (6 hours) to practice instructional routines.

Next Workshop: July 11th

Discounts are available for enrollment of groups of 3+ participants please email [email protected] for more information.

Struggling Readers and Students with Dyslexia
The efficacy of the RAVE-O has been evaluated with diverse groups of students, and demonstrates significant growth among students with dyslexia in decoding, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension.
The program is designed for students in 2nd - 4th grade who are reading below grade level.
RAVE-O Virtual
Each unit contains 3 live lessons and 3 sets of self-guided student activities. All lessons can be delivered remotely or in-person. Live lessons are 35 mins. and available for delivery via Google slides. Self-guided activities are 15 mins. and available for Seesaw.
Engaging Literacy Instruction
The RAVE-O curriculum was developed to appeal to children's imagination and sense of whimsy. Students are tasked with serving as "Word Detectives," and throughout the program encounter RAVE-O Town characters who teach them phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension strategies.
