
Grounded in the Science of Reading, this course emphasizes the critical role of integrating phonics instruction with vocabulary, syntax, morphology, fluency and comprehension. Each lesson not only teaches each skill in isolation but applies students' knowledge to decodable texts.
Through a hands-on, high-leverage approach to small group instruction, you’ll learn to:

Teach key reading strategies to move students from decoding sound by sound to mapping sight words.

Teach syntactic awareness to support students' ability to fluently read phrases and comprehend text.

Plan and deliver multi-component Structured Literacy lessons that focus on phonics, vocabulary, syntax, spelling and comprehension.

Course Commitment. 15 hours
Course Duration. 6 months to complete coursework from June 1, 2025 or enrollment date.
Access to Decoding Duo Lessons. Participants will select one manual and receive free digital access for 6 months.
Graduate Credit (1) is available through Gordon College for an additional fee of $75. Once you register for the course you will receive instructions on registering for graduate credit.
